Vol. 232 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - East Cork Speed Limit.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Cork County Council recommended some six months ago that a 30 mph speed limit be imposed at Ballinacurra, Midleton, on the Cork-Whitegate Road which divides two housing schemes and on which there have been several accidents; and when sanction will be given by his Department.

Representations were made to my Department by Cork County Council in November last for the imposition of a 30 mph speed limit in the village of Ballinacurra, Midleton. Preparation of amending speed limit regulations for Cork County is proceeding in consultation with the technical staff of the road authorities concerned and the Garda Síochána. All representations, including those of Cork County Council, will be fully considered before revised regulations are brought into operation.

Will the Minister state how long it is since the first of those requests was received in his Department? We have found it impossible over a period of two years to get anything like a result out of him. Seeing that in the case of the Naas Road, a Department decision was given very quickly, can we not have the same thing here or are those early decisions reserved for the Pale?

Put them out, Martin.

As I told the Deputy, representations were received in November last——

——and the matter is being dealt with at present and should not take very long more.

Is this not the general position in relation to all these applications by local authorities?

The question is a specific one dealing with areas in County Cork.

This question deals with Midleton and November last is not years ago.

Send Ali Baba down to Cork. He will settle it.
