The position is that the full responsibility for negotiations and discussions with beet growers rests with Comhlucht Siúicre Éireann Teoranta. Arrangements in regard to prices are not a function of the Minister.
When the company and growers' representatives could not agree on the terms of a beet contract for 1965, the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries requested both parties to meet again in an effort to settle the difficulties which had arisen between them, and both parties agreed to do so.
