Vol. 238 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disarmament Policy.

5.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will make a statement on Ireland's attitude to South Africa's expansion of missile and war potential; and if he will detail the steps he intends to take to implement Irish policy on disarmament in this respect.

The Government have been consistently against the expansion of the arms race in South Africa or elsewhere. We made our attitude clear in various statements and in our votes at the General Assembly of the United Nations.

As regards the second part of the question, the Government are complying with the calls made by the Security Council on all States not to sell arms, ammunition and military equipment to South Africa.
