It is the policy of An Chomhairle Oiliúna to expand and modernise the apprenticeship system so as to raise standards of skill and to ensure that the requirements of industry for skilled men are met. Training centres will be used mainly for the training of adults to semi-skilled level. However, it is the intention of An Chomhairle to provide, on an experimental basis, a number of training places in the centres where apprentices will receive full-time training during their first year. The object will be to test full-time off-the-job training as a method of raising standards of skill.
