Vol. 238 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Thurles Swimming Pool.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government if a grant will be made available to Thurles Urban District Council towards the cost of providing a swimming pool in Thurles, County Tipperary.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will allot a capital allocation to Thurles Urban District Council for the year 1969-70 for the provision of a swimming pool, proposals for which are with his Department for a considerable period, in view of the fact that the required local contribution towards capital cost is now available.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 36 and 37 together.

Thurles Urban District Council has recently informed me that they have now decided to build a more modest type of pool than that originally proposed. I have asked them to submit the necessary documentation for their revised proposals so that the planning of the new pool may be finalised. Until further progress has been made with the construction of pools already approved by me I do not propose, however, to undertake additional commitments in respect of new pools.

The usual subsidy at the rate of 50 per cent of the annual loan charges on borrowing to meet the cost of the pool will be available on the approved project in due course.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware if those plans have been lodged in the Department?

Quite recently only.

In the past two months.

The Parliamentary Secretary wants to change them.

No, it was the Thurles Urban Council which decided to change them.
