asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement in relation to the proposed closing of Cadamstown national school, County Offaly; if he will send a senior officer of his Department to discuss this matter with the parents' committee; and if he will consider meeting a deputation of the parents concerned at a later stage who wish to convey their views in relation to this matter.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cadamstown (Offaly) National School.

This is a one-teacher school in which the teacher is temporary and unqualified. While I am quite willing to send a senior officer of my Department to discuss the question of closing the school with the parents it should be quite obvious that I would be failing utterly in my responsibility towards the children concerned if I were to allow their education to continue under these conditions.
I might add that a new comprehensive curriculum for national schools is at present being framed and that there will be no possibility of having that curriculum taught in a fully satisfactory manner in a school which has not at least three teachers.
