Vol. 239 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stamp Duty on Property.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of stamp duties at 25 per cent collected from non-nationals on the purchase of property from 1959 to the latest available date; and if he can give an estimate of the number who have evaded this duty.

In the period from the 1st April, 1959, to the 31st March, 1969, the amount of stamp duty at the 25 per cent rate collected from non-nationals on the purchase of property was £573,210.

I have no knowledge of any cases of evasion of the duty.

Is the Minister not aware of the subversive companies that are operating and that have bought land for foreigners in this part of the world?

No. I have no knowledge or evidence of any evasion.

The Minister has no knowledge? He is an innocent man, please God.

There is a very charming tribute. I am very grateful to the Deputy.
