The figures for calendar years are not readily available and it would take some time to segregate them on that basis. I would, however, refer the Deputy to my reply to a question by him on 31st October, 1968, covering the financial years 1958-59 to 1967-68. The figures for 1956-57 and for 1957-58 were £4,783,837 and £5,435,116 respectively.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number and classification of mechanically propelled vehicles in respect of which road tax was paid each year during the period 1963 to 1968.
The information requested is in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report. The figures given relate to the numbers of mechanically propelled vehicles under current licence on the 10th August of each year.
