Vol. 241 No. 4

Written Answers. - Derrynane House.

168.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the roof and walls of Derrynane House, County Kerry, the home of Daniel O'Connell, which was opened only two years ago following renovation work which cost £24,000, are already showing signs of dampness; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy the situation.

None of the roofs or walls restored in recent years has shown any signs of dampness penetration.

Dampness was recently observed in one wall of the library of Derrynane House.

169.

asked the Minister for Finance when proper signposts relating to Derrynane House, County Kerry, will be erected, as the present handwritten signs are not in keeping with the historic character of the building.

Arrangements are already in hands for the erection of new signposts.

170.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in view of the recent thefts of valuable documents from Rothe House, Kilkenny, he is satisfied that the security arrangements made to protect the O'Connell relics and valuable silver collections are adequate.

I am satisfied with the security arrangements at Derrynane Abbey.
