Vol. 241 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Hospitals.

36.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that there have been reports of serious defects in the recently built admission unit of the mental hospital and in the maternity unit of the county hospital, Castlebar, County Mayo; and what steps he proposes to take to have these defects rectified.

The taking of steps so as to secure the remedying of certain defects in hospital buildings at Castlebar is primarily a matter for Mayo County Council. Some of the issues which have arisen as between the council and one of the other parties concerned are the subject of High Court and arbitration proceedings and comment would not be appropriate at this juncture.

My Department is keeping in close touch with the council in the matter and has been emphasising my anxiety that the defects in the buildings should be remedied at the earliest possible opportunity.
