Vol. 242 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Graiguenamanagh (Kilkenny) Post-Primary Education.

75.

andDr. FitzGerald asked the Minister for Education what area he regards as the catchment area for Graiguenamanagh vocational school; and what plans he has for the further development of post-primary education in Graiguenamanagh.

The present catchment area for the Graiguenamanagh centre is as follows:

Co. Kilkenny: Graiguenamanagh Boys and Girls schools, Coppena national school.

Co. Carlow: Glynn, Drummlin and Newtown national schools.

The catchment area is at present under review in consultation with the various local educational interests.

The long-range plan for post-primary education in Graiguenamanagh is to develop the centre as a strong junior post-primary centre, providing a wide curriculum both academic and practical. It is considered that for the leaving certificate course, the needs of the pupils would best be served by transport to Kilkenny city.
