106.

asked the Minister for Education the number of students taken into the pre-medical class at University College, Dublin, during the academic year 1968-69; the number of students who passed the examination at the end of the year and who were eligible for admission to the medical school at University College, Dublin; the number of applicants who were accepted into the medical school; and the number of any successful students who were referred to the following year.

178 students registered for the pre-medical course in 1968-69. These students, together with 51 from the previous year, sat for the first medical entrance examination in 1969. Of this number 146 passed the examination and 135 were allocated places in the first medical course in 1969-70. The remaining 11 were to be allocated places in 1970-71, but two of them have since transferred to other faculties, leaving nine to be allocated places in the first medical course in 1969-70.
