Vol. 243 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Youth Centre.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether there are any proposals before his Department for a recreation centre and youth centre in the Blanchardstown-Clonsilla area of County Dublin.

There are no proposals regarding this matter before me at present.

Is the Minister aware that this is a growing area, an area with a large population and that the local authority had been requested on numerous occasions to make plans for the youth of this area who have no facilities whatsoever? Would the Minister not think it is high time to take steps to provide facilities for the youth of County Dublin?

I am aware of that but, as I say, the local authority have not placed any proposals before me in regard to this and there is nothing I can do about it.

I am sure the Minister knows how easy it is to get land.

There are open spaces there.

Does the Minister intend to do anything about it? Is it within his power?

I am afraid I have no power to direct the local authority.

(Cavan): Would Deputy Foley offer himself for membership of the county council at the next election?

Does the Deputy want one of his men to lose his seat?
