Vol. 245 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Mullingar Swimming Pool.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Mullingar swimming pool committee have about £8,000 collected; and when he will give grants and sanction for this project.

I am aware that the committee is in a position to contribute more than £11,500—not £8,000 as the Deputy states—towards the cost of this project.

A deputation from the committee was met by my Parliamentary Secretary on the 1st April and was informed that when the plans for the project had been finalised, special note would be taken of the exceptionally large contributions which they were prepared to make. Following that discussion, Westmeath County Council were asked by my Department on 3rd April to submit plans and other technical information about the project.

Would the Minister not agree that Deputy L'Estrange's ignorance of the amount of the local contribution indicates a need for an extra Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála for the constituency?

I would agree that a Deputy who understates the case by as much as 44 per cent is a substantial liability for any project.
