Vol. 245 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Amenity Scheme.

26.

Mr. Dunne

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will expedite sanction of an amenity scheme at Holycross, County Tipperary, proposals for which were submitted by Tipperary North Riding County Council in February, 1969.

Certain planning aspects in this application required close examination. This has now been done but it is not yet clear whether the moneys likely to be available for amenity grants in the current year will permit new commitments being made. This matter must be reviewed and a grant for the Holycross project cannot be allocated until the position has been clarified.

Do I understand from the Minister's reply that there is no point in any local authority making application for an amenity grant in the coming year?

Not exactly.

That is what the Minister said in his reply.

Not exactly.

There is no harm in making an application.

So far as I am concerned housing and sanitary services have priority.

They will not get much either.

The Deputy knows that they will get considerably more than last year. The Deputy has seen the Estimates.
