Vol. 248 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wicklow Harbour Pollution.

17.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he has had a report from the Wicklow Harbour Commissioners about oil pollution in Wicklow harbour resulting from an accident on board a ship docked there recently; and if he can give assistance to the board to eradicate the pollution.

I was informed by the Wicklow Harbour Commissioners that an oil spillage occurred in Wicklow Harbour on 17th May last.

The commissioners were advised on the methods of treating oil pollution and their attention was drawn to the powers available to them under the Oil Pollution of the Sea Acts and Wicklow Harbour bye-laws. It was suggested to them that they should consider whether a prosecution could be brought in this case.

I am informed by the commissioners that only slight traces of the spillage now remain.
