Vol. 249 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Bord Fáilte Marketing Plans.

14.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will give a detailed report of the new marketing and promotion plans announced by Bord Fáilte and the manner in which the extra marketing subvention is to be extended.

I am informed by Bord Fáilte that after consultation with the industry the board has drawn up plans for special additional marketing programmes in our main tourist markets. The bulk of the expenditure under the programme will be on consumer advertising backed up by public relations and sales activity with appropriate supporting print and distribution. The provision of funds for this programme will be settled shortly.

Can the Minister indicate as yet from his brief what proportion of the additional subvention of £350,000 is being allocated to Britain, Europe and the US?

We have not decided on the amount yet. I am leaving that to the experts. We have yet to work out the appropriate provision.

Will the £350,000 additional subvention be adequate, because the tourist industry think it inadequate? The total could be expended in Britain alone.

I brought that point to the notice of Bord Fáilte.
