Vol. 257 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pharmaceutical Assistants.

16.

andMr. Tully asked the Minister for Health the number of qualified pharmaceutical assistants practising in Ireland.

17.

andMr. Tully asked the Minister for Health if there are any proposals to invalidate the professional category of qualified pharmaceutical assistant; and if so, why.

18.

asked the Minister for Health is he is considering changing the position of qualified assistants in the pharmaceutical profession; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions No. 16, 17 and 18 together. The number of assistants to pharmaceutical chemists registered in the register maintained by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland at the 31st December, 1970, was 369.

There are no proposals before me which would affect the existing statutory rights of these assistants.

Is there a proposal which means that this will not be continued in the future?

Nothing has come before me in regard to that.

Has a proposal come from any other body that their status should be changed?

Not as far as I know.

Would the Minister look with disfavour on such a proposal at the moment?

At the moment I certainly would.
