Vol. 258 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Naas Hospital Facilities.

10.

asked the Minister for Health when it is proposed to provide two lifts and an incinerator in the County Hospital, Naas, County Kildare.

A proposal has been submitted to my Department by the Eastern Health Board regarding the installation of lifts at the County Hospital, Naas. As this would involve significant expenditure, the health board have been requested to review the project in the light of the future hospital needs of the area. I will consider the matter further when I receive their report.

There are no proposals before my Department regarding the provision of an incinerator at this hospital.

Would the Minister not agree that no matter what future proposals are envisaged for the county hospital in Naas, lifts will be an essential in that hospital? Would he not further agree that it is hardly fair to the patients, and the staff who have to deal with such a volume of work, not to have lifts?

We will be getting a report from the Eastern Health Board and the matter can be reconsidered.
