59.

asked the Taoiseach the annual salary payable as at 1st March, 1972, to the chief executive of each of the State sponsored bodies under the aegis of his Department.

In regard to An Chomhairle Ealaíon, the annual salary payable as at the 1st March, 1972, to the chief executive, that is, the secretary, was £2,915.

60.

asked the Minister for Health the annual salary as at 1st March, 1972, of the chief executive of each State-sponsored body under the aegis of his Department.

In relation to certain other bodies in respect of which the Minister for Health has functions:

(i) Bodies concerned with the registration, et cetera, of medical practitioners, dentists and opticians. The Minister has no function in regard to the remuneration of staff.

(ii) Hospitals Trust Board—The secretarial services are provided on an agency basis by the Bank of Ireland.

(iii) Hospitals—Salaries are in accordance with those applicable in the voluntary hospitals generally.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the annual salary as at 1st March, 1972, of the chief executive of each State-sponsored body under the aegis of his Department.

The information sought by the Deputy is available only in relation to chief executives of State companies under the aegis of my Department who are appointed by the Government. There is only one such chief executive, namely, the managing director of Bord na Móna and his salary is £5,850 a year.

The chairman of the ESB is also a full-time Government appointment and for many years he was the chief executive of the ESB. Following the recent reorganisation of that body he no longer acts as chief executive. His salary is at present £8,190 a year.

The chief executives of the other State enterprises for which I am responsible are employees of the boards who, under the relevant statutes, have sole responsibility for their appointment, remuneration and conditions of employment.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the annual salary as at 1st March, 1972, of the chief executive of each State-sponsored body under the aegis of his Department.

The only State-sponsored body under the aegis of my Department is the Board for the Employment of the Blind which operates the workshops for the blind. No member of the board receives any remuneration.

63.

asked the Minister for Labour the annual salary as at 1st March, 1972, of the chief executive of each State-sponsored body under the aegis of his Department.

The chief officer of AnCO receives the salary of an Assistant Secretary in the Civil Service and is, in addition, paid a non-pensionable allowance of £750 per annum.

The executive director of CERT Ltd. has a salary of £4,784.

asked the Minister for Finance the annual salary as at 1st March, 1972, of the chief executive of each State-sponsored body under the aegis of his Department.

The only State-sponsored bodies under the aegis of my Department where I have a function in relation to the salary of the chief executive are the Agricultural Credit Corporation and the Industrial Credit Company Limited. The annual salary payable as at 1st March, 1972, to the chairman and chief executive of the Agricultural Credit Corporation is £4,680 and to the General Manager of the Industrial Credit Company is £6,650.

Following is the information in respect of the bodies concerned excepting An Foras Talúntais and the National Dairy Council. I have no function in regard to the salaries of the chief executives of these bodies.

The reply embraces only those State-sponsired bodies in which the remuneration of chief executive is subject to the control of the Minister for Industry and Commerce. I have no function in relation to chief executives in other instances.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the annual salary as at 1st March, 1972, of the chief executive of each State-sponsored body under the aegis of his Department.

Radio Telefís Éireann is the only such body for which I have a responsibility. The salary of the Director-General as at 1st March, 1972, is £7,024 p.a.
