Vol. 260 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Redundancy Payments.

20.

asked the Minister for Labour why a person in Ballyfermot, Dublin (name supplied) has not yet received redundancy payment from the Redundancy Fund.

The person in question was paid his lump sum from the Redundancy Fund on 25th April, 1972.

What is the reason for the long delay of seven months in paying this man?

It went before the redundancy appeals board I understand. It was the result of an appeal.

Could the Minister explain this long delay?

I think the time lapse was reasonable.

Is seven months reasonable?

No; the appeal only took place on 23rd February last.

Is that normal?

It is a long time but that is actually the date of the appeal.

Why did it take that long to pay the man? It is two months since the appeal was heard.

I do not think there was any complaint about that. Quite a few things happened before then. Payment could not take place the next day.

Why? It took two months to make a payment.

Did the Minister say there was no complaint?

I do not think so.

The man paid at least seven visits looking for payment and it was only when I put down the question that he got his cheque.

It was paid on 25th April. I do not think the Deputy's question was down then.

My question was in before he got paid.

I do not think it really matters.

Gross inefficiency. Two months delay in effecting payment.
