Vol. 260 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Hospital Casualty Centre.

11.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state his Department's decision regarding the proposal to set up a casualty centre at Dr. Steevens' Hospital, Dublin.

An emergency and accident service is, of course, at present provided at Dr. Steevens' Hospital. The question of the provision of more extensive facilities to deal with the growing volume of accident work as part of the proposed hospital complex serving the south-west of the city is being considered in consultation with the authorities concerned and it is hoped that a decision will be agreed within a reasonable period.

Has the Minister received an actual proposal on this subject?

I have received alternative proposals.

The Minister will agree that the other hospitals are going to opt out of the accident scheme by virtue of the fact that beds are not available?

The matter is being examined.

May I ask the Minister when a decision will be reached in this matter?

I cannot say.
