Vol. 260 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Departmental Career Leaflets.

24.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware that the career leaflets issued by his Department are several years old and if, in view of the misleading effect this has on interested persons, he will arrange to have the leaflets brought up to date or alternatively have inserts included in them giving the up-to-date rates and conditions of employment.

Of 210 leaflets produced since 1967, 120 have been revised to date. The leaflets most in demand have been revised and work on up-dating the other leaflets is proceeding.

Surely the Minister will agree that to issue to somebody who is interested or to the parents of somebody who is interested a leaflet with particulars pertaining to 1967 in 1972 is not good enough? It tends to give a very wrong impression of careers to youngsters or to their parents.

Where a leaflet is noticeably out of date we would not issue it. The Deputy may be thinking of leaflets issued over two years ago which are still on display in some schools.

I am talking about leaflets issued to some friends of mine within the last few months which are dated 1967.

We do a fair job in updating these.

Would the Minister not agree that they should all be updated? It is not good enough to say that there are 100 which have not been updated.

Would the Labour Party concentrate on bringing their policies up to date?

The only policy the Deputy has is to remain on the back benches of the Fianna Fáil Party.
