Vol. 270 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Estuarial Authority.

13.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that Kerry has only two representatives on the estuarial authority for the Shannon while Tipperary (North Riding) has four representatives; and if any action will be taken to remedy this imbalance.

The Shannon Ports Joint Committee, representative of the three scheduled harbour authorities in the Shannon Estuary, Limerick, Foynes and Kilrush Urban District Council, are at present considering the setting up of a single harbour authority for the estuary, which will require amending legislation. They hope to be in a position in the near future to submit proposals for my consideration which would include the suggested composition of the new authority. Until I receive these proposals I cannot say what the suggested representation of Kerry and Tipperary North Riding County Councils will be.
