Vol. 271 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Afforestation.

61.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a large area of wood is being cut away at Inchnagaul near Kenmare, County Kerry; that no effort has been made to replant in this area; that this district is now becoming unsightly; and if he will state the action he proposes to take in the matter.

I understand that the woods referred to by the Deputy are those on the Sheen Falls estate. In April, 1973, a licence to fell certain trees exercisable over a period of two years was granted to the owner of this estate. Felling under this licence has not yet been completed and consequently the replanting obligation imposed as a condition of the licence has not been implemented.

Since there has been no felling outside the terms of the licence there is no action that I would wish to take in the matter at present.
