asked the Minister for the Public Service the number of persons who are not civil servants employed by him since March, 1973; their names; their status; and their salaries.

The Department of the Public Service were not established until November, 1973. I have not employed any non-civil servants since, other than some language teachers and consultants who are employed on a fee basis.

(a) A total of six students were given temporary vacation employment during each summer.

(b) A total of fifty-two Engineering and Architectural students were employed on temporary vacation employment during each summer. Twenty-two students were employed on Archaelogical Work and twenty-eight students as guides at National Monuments, parks and State Apartments. In addition a large number of industrial staff were employed, mainly for arterial drainage seasonal work. All recruitment is done locally through the National Manpower Service and employment exchanges.

My Parliamentary Secretary has the replies to Questions Nos. 80 to 85 but he has not arrived yet. However, if the Chair permits perhaps I might answer Question No. 86 for the Minister for Transport and Power on whose behalf I am replying.
