Vol. 284 No. 1

Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

189.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have unemployment assistance paid to a person (name supplied) in Mallow, County Cork.

The application for unemployment assistance made by the person concerned on 6th November, 1974, was disallowed by a deciding officer on the ground that the statutory condition for the receipt of unemployment assistance which requires an applicant to be capable of work was not satisfied in his case.

The applicant's appeal against this decision has now been allowed by an appeals officer and arrangements are being made for the payment of unemployment assistance due to him at his local post office during week commencing 26th July, 1975.

190.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have unemployment assistance paid again to a person (name supplied) in Rockchapel, County Cork.

As was indicated in the reply to a similar question of 23rd April last, payment of unemployment assistance in this case is being withheld in recovery of an overpayment of unemployment assistance which arose from the applicant's failure to disclose the ownership of a farm and the renting of additional land for grazing. When the amount involved has been recovered payment will be restored provided the applicant continues to satisfy the statutory conditions for the receipt of unemployment assistance.

191.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment assistance has not been paid to a person in County Kildare (name supplied).

The application for unemployment assistance made by the person concerned on 30th June, 1975, was disallowed by a deciding officer on the ground that he did not satisfy the statutory condition which requires the applicant to be available for employment. It is open to the person in question, if he is dissatisfied with the decision, to appeal against it.
