Vol. 288 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Postal Services.

16.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he has any proposals to reduce Irish postal services on lines similar to those announced in the United Kingdom.

I have no proposals to reduce postal services at present. Services are, of course, frequently reviewed in the light of changing customer attitudes, cost and staffing developments, and so on.

(Dublin Central): Does the Minister consider it advisable that some survey should be carried out of the whole postal service?

Continuous examination of the matters is going on within my Department. The Post Office Users' Council also have these matters under review and an allied matter of charges is under review by the National Prices Commission. In addition, there have been specialised consultancy studies from time to time in various areas.
