Vol. 291 No. 15

Written Answers. - Coolock, Dublin, School.

73.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make arrangements to have a general purpose room provided as soon as possible in the girls' primary school in Bonnybrook, Coolock, Dublin.

My Department have sanctioned grants towards the cost of a major scheme of improvements and extension, including the provision of large-scale general purposes rooms, at Bonnybrook boys' and girls' national schools. I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that, the improvement works having been completed, tenders were invited for the erection of the general purposes room and that these have now been received.

I am not in a position to say when the work will commence.

asked the Minister for Education if he will provide a full complement of teachers including the necessary number of remedial teachers for the girls' primary school in Bonnybrook, Coolock, Dublin.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 74 and 75 together.

The number of teachers authorised in any national school is related to the average number of pupils enrolled in the school, in accordance with provisions which are of general application throughout the national school system. Bonnybrook boys' and girls' schools have their full complement of teachers under those provisions. In addition, seven ex-quota posts have been allowed in view of the special problems of the school—three remedial teachers and four specialclass teachers.
