andMr. Briscoe asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the extent of the activities of Comhairle le Leas Óige, its staffing and the supervision of its officers' work.

Comhairle le Leas Óige is a subcommittee of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee. The main function of An Comhairle is the establishment and maintenance of youth training centres.

There are 139 youth groups affiliated to An Chomhairle in the current year with a combined membership of approximately 22,000. An Chomhairle offer the following services to affiliated groups:

(1) Provision of Teachers and Lectures; (2) Secretarial Services; (3) Insurance Services; (4) Library Services for Youth Leaders; (5) Advisory Services; (6) Grants towards: Decoration, Equipment, Running Costs of Clubs, Cookery Classes, Film Shows, Leader Training, Swimming Classes and grants for Special Purposes; (7) Competitions, Seminars, etc.

An Chomhairle employ seven officers for out-of-school activities under the supervision of a director. In addition there is a secretary organiser and four office staff. The duties of the officers for out-of-school activities are primarily to assist in the motivation, training, and support of the voluntary youth leaders. In this capacity their duties include:

(1) Visitation of youth groups and inspection of activities; (2) contacting young people not being catered for by existing services and providing an advisory and guidance service for them. They maintain contact with welfare and educational services, employment agencies, parents, teachers, probation officers, and so on; (3) leadership training.
