Vol. 294 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vocational School Management Boards.

27.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in regard to management boards in vocational schools.

Boards of management in vocational schools have been introduced in the administrative areas of 24 vocational education committees. There are 148 boards in operation at present.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to circulate for inclusion in the Official Report a list of the vocational education committees which have introduced boards of management in their administrative areas.

Following is the list:

Vocational Education Committee Areas in which Boards of Management are operating:

City of Cork, City of Dublin, City of Limerick, City of Waterford, County Cavan, County Clare, County Cork, County Donegal, County Dublin, County Kerry, County Kilkenny, County Laois, County Limerick, County Louth, County Mayo, County Meath, County Monaghan, County Offaly, County Roscommon, County Sligo, County Tipperary (NR), County Tipperary (SR), County Waterford, County Wexford.

Has the Minister any information about trouble with regard to teacher representation on boards of management in the areas where they have already been set up?

It depends upon what the Deputy means by trouble. I have read reports of requests from teachers that they be given representation on the boards.

Has the Minister seen any notice in the organ of the Teachers Union of Ireland about management committees in vocational schools?

Not personally.
