Vol. 297 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Redundant Technicians.

17.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of partially trained technicians made redundant by a firm (name supplied) over the past two years as a result of cut-backs in orders for equipment from the Department of Posts and Telegraphs; and if he has formulated any plans for the completion of the training or retraining of the young men concerned.

The number of redundancies notified to my Department by the firm in question over the past two years was 14. None of these was described as a technician or trainee technician.

Training opportunities with The Training Authority are available to unemployed and redundant workers and any of the workers let go by this firm who would like to be considered for retraining should contact The Training Authority or the National Manpower Service.

(Dublin Central): Can the Minister state if the same type of equipment which is manufactured by this company has been purchased from abroad?

I have no information on that aspect. If the Deputy is interested I am sure it can be discovered from the appropriate Departments.
