Vol. 306 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Service.

16.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of telephones installed in County Roscommon and in County Leitrim in 1977; and the number of applicants now waiting for this service in each county.

(Dublin South-Central): Two hundred and sixty were installed in County Roscommon and 150 in County Leitrim. There are 620 applicants for service in Roscommon and 280 in Leitrim. Arrangements have been made to provide service for 75 of these and terms have been quoted to a further 45.

I am trying to get some priority for my constituency now because we were waiting many years to get a service under the previous Government and were deprived of it. We got no service whatsoever in regard to the installation of telephones in my constituency over the last four-and-a-half years. I have confidence that with the present Government we will get telephones in due course.

(Cavan-Monaghan): Is the Minister aware, now that Deputy Leyden's party have control of Roscommon County Council, that they can establish telephone kiosks all over the place if they pay for them?

That is if Deputy Leyden stays in the party.

We will do that.
