Vol. 307 No. 1

Written Answers . - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Schools Psychological Service .

172.

asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of the schools psychological service in operation in the Ballyfermot area of Dublin; and if he is satisfied that this service is adequate to meet the needs of the area.

: The psychological service for schools in the Ballyfermot area of Dublin is similar to that provided in other areas. In the case of post-primary schools in the area teachers engaged in school guidance and remedial education function in these schools under the general supervision of the Department's inspectors of guidance service and psychologists, one of whom has been assigned, to the area.

The City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee also provide a psychological service in the vocational school.

As regards primary schools in this area a service was commenced on a pilot basis in 1971 and the person assigned to the project is still available to these schools on request. I am satisfied that in the context of available resources the level of service to the schools in the Ballyfermot area is adequate.
