Statistics of the population of individual townlands in the district electoral divisions concerned have been compiled, in so far as it is possible to do so, from the 1979 census records and are given in the following tables.
It is necessary to point out in this regard that for many urban areas it is not possible to compile townland population figures as building development obliterates over time the physical features by which townland boundaries were originally defined on Ordnance Survey maps. Thus it is not possible to show in the following tables separate population figures for townlands which are largely urban in character.
