Vol. 320 No. 7

Written Answers. - Athlone School.

22.

asked the Minister for Education when his Department advertised for tenders for the national school at Ballinahown, Athlone, County Westmeath and when they were received, if a tender has been accepted to date and if so, when work will commence on the building, and the reason for the delay to date in commencing this new school as the old school is in very bad repair.

I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that tenders were sought in September 1979 and were received in November 1979. The tenders received are considerably in excess of the cost-limit and the possibility of bringing the lowest tender within the limit is examined in my Department in consultation with the Office of Public Works.

It is not possible at this stage to state when building work may commence.
