Vol. 321 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Roscommon Proposed Briquette Factory.

209

asked the Minister for Energy the present position regarding the proposed briquette factory in Ballyforan, County Roscommon; if a suitable site has been obtained; if so, the location of the site; the proposed commencement and completion dates; the cost of the project; and the number of (i) jobs involved at construction stage and (ii) permanent jobs on completion.

A site for the factory has been selected in County Galway about one mile south-west of the village of Ballyforan, County Roscommon and negotiations are currently taking place for the purchase of the site. It is expected that construction work will commence in 1982 with the first stage of commissioning late in 1984 and the second stage in 1987. It is estimated that the cost of the project at current rates will be £25 million and that the number of jobs will be 150 at the construction stage and 220 permanent jobs on completion.
