asked the Minister for the Environment the number of manual and supervisory workers under the following headings (a) road workers, (b) craftsmen, (c) semi-skilled workers, (d) supervisory workers and (e) drivers employed by each county council at (i) May 1979, (ii) January 1980 and (iii) May 1980.

274.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of persons employed by each county council as (a) road overseers, (b) assistant road overseers, (c) supervisory overseers at (i) May 1979, (ii) January 1980 and (iii) May 1980.

275.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of persons employed as (a) general manual workers, (b) supervisory workers and (c) drivers by each borough council and urban district council at (i) May 1979, (ii) January 1980 and (iii) May 1980.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 273 to 275, inclusive, together.

The information sought by the Deputy is not available in my Department in relation to the dates in question or for all the categories mentioned.

In my reply to Question No. 55 on 28 February 1980 I gave details of the number of construction workers and road workers employed on work for local authorities at 31 December 1979. The following additional information, based on returns submitted by local authorities to my Department in respect of the year ended 31 December, 1979, the latest date for which comprehensive figures are available, is furnished in respect of those grades which approximate to those referred to by the Deputy, employed at that date in the local authorities.

Note: The returns received from local authorities show that there are also 114 other supervisory employees in employment who are not included gradings listed above. Of this latter group, 66 are employed in Limerick Corporation.
