Vol. 322 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

361.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment assistance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Meath.

The application for unemployment assistance of the person concerned has been disallowed by a deciding officer on the grounds that his means exceed the statutory limit.

If he wishes to appeal against the disallowance of his claim he may obtain a form for this purpose at his local office.

362.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason AnCO trainees are insurable for occupational injuries benefit only, and are excluded from the full range of insurability.

Persons in attendance at training courses provided or approved of by AnCO are not in insurable employment for the purposes of the Social Welfare Acts. Special provision has, however, been made in respect of such persons whereby they are insured for occupational injury benefit while on such courses.

In addition they receive special credits which preserve their entitlement to unemployment benefit and disability benefit and which are also reckonable for retirement, old age contributory and widow's pensions.

363.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that a person (details supplied) in Dublin who is a non-contributory pensioner did not receive the pension increase due in October 1979 until 13 May 1980, when she received arrears retrospective to the end of February 1980 only; and when the outstanding arrears will be paid.

Although a supplementary pension book implementing the October 1979 increase issued to the pensioner's Post Office in October last it was not collected by her. My Department only became aware of the position when the Post Office returned the book at the end of April.

The pension book containing those orders which were still valid was returned to the pensioner on 13 May when she was advised that payment of arrears due in respect of out-of-date orders was under consideration. A payable order in respect of these arrears issued on 16 June 1980.
