Vol. 322 No. 9

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Scheme.

429.

asked the Minister for the Environment when he will sanction the tenders for Ballybay sewerage scheme, County Monaghan, which have been submitted by Monaghan County Council.

Contract documents for the civil works and mechanical plant contractors and tenders for the mechanical plant contract are under consideration in my Department. I am not in a position at this stage to say when decisions thereon may issue to the local authority.

430.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the application by Monaghan County Council for a provisional order to take a water supply from Lough Bawn and associated lakes to augment Ballybay water supply, County Monaghan.

I understand that Monaghan County Council will require land in order to put the water supplies proposal into effect and that they are not yet in a position to state that they can acquire all this land by agreement or whether it will be necessary to proceed by way of compulsory purchase order. In the event of objections to such a compulsory purchase order a public local inquiry would be held concurrently into these objections and into the water rights application for a provisional order and both proposals would be considered and determined together.

The holding of a public local inquiry into the water rights application is, therefore, being deferred until the position regarding the land acquisition is clarified.

431.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the proposed group water supply scheme at Glenflesk, Killarney, and the steps that will be taken to ensure its further progress.

A local group have indicated their intention to formulate a group water scheme in the area. They have been asked to complete survey sheets as the first step. On receipt of the completed survey sheets my Department's supervising inspector for the area will call to the group to discuss the proposal in greater detail.
