Vol. 323 No. 6

Written Answers . - Letterkenny Hospital .

356.

asked the Minister for Health when the new extension to Letterkenny General Hospital, County Donegal, will be opened; and how long it will be thereafter before the establishment of a nurses' training school in the hospital.

: The development of Letterkenny General Hospital is being carried out in two general stages. The new main multi-storey block is due to be commissioned in June 1981 to provide patient accommodation while the existing hospital buildings are being renovated. This renovation, which is the final stage of the current scheme, is expected to be completed early in 1983.

In regard to the establishment of a nurse training school at Letterkenny, this matter is at present under examination in my Department in the light of recommendations regarding nurse training contained in a recent report submitted to me by a working party on general nursing. I will shortly be consulting with An Bord Altranais and the health board in the matter in order to make the necessary arrangements for nurse training at Letterkenny General Hospital.
