Vol. 324 No. 1

Written Answers. - Road Overseers' Dispute.

414

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in the dispute affecting the rate of pay of supervisory road overseers employed by (a) Meath and (b) Westmeath County Councils indicating the latest proposals sanctioned by his Department and the outstanding matters in dispute.

On 16 September 1980, my Department, in response to a proposal from Meath County Council, sanctioned a special pay increase for the council's supervisory road overseers. The increase is payable in three phases and resulted in the following scales:

1 August 1979

1 October 1979

1 January 1980

I understand that the union concerned are seeking a further adjustment in the above scales on the basis of a Labour Court recommendation issued in May 1978 in respect of rural road overseers generally and that a Labour Court conciliation conference on this aspect will be held on 27 November 1980.

There are no proposals before my Department in respect of supervisory road overseers employed by Westmeath County Council.
