Vol. 333 No. 7

Written Answers. - Bull Island (Dublin) Conservation.

110.

asked the Minister for the Environment the plans the Government have to safeguard the position of Bull Island which was recently declared a biosphere by UNESCO.

I understand that Dublin Corporation, as the responsible planning authority, are reviewing the position of planning and development in the Dublin Bay area generally in consultation with the other local authorities and interests involved. I also understand that, in view of the particular importance of the Bull Island and the potentially conflicting demands affecting it, the corporation are examining the question of making a special amenity area order in respect of the island and contiguous areas. I consider that future action in regard to the Bull Island should await the outcome of this process. The island is already protected by a Wildlife Order under the Wildlife Act, 1976.
