asked the Minister for Finance the additional anti-evasion work over and above that already being carried out by trained inspectors of taxes being pursued by the new anti-evasion unit established last year in the office of the Revenue Commissioners; and the direct financial yield he expects from an apparent outlay in current salaries of £583,744 per annum.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason emergency tax is still being deducted from a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider the proposal that school bus fees be allowable as tax-free allowance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

asked the Minister for Finance in respect of the VAT period for March/April 1982 (1) the number of VAT 3s issued; (2) the total number of VAT registrations for the period; (3) the number of VAT 3s which were paid on estimate; (4) the number of VAT 3s which were submitted by the due date; (5) the number of VAT 3s which were submitted within three months and (6) the number of VAT 3s which have not yet been received.

asked the Minister for Finance in respect of the year 1982 (a) the number of estimates which were raised under section 22 of the VAT Act of 1972; (b) the number of estimates which were paid; (c) the total monetary amount of section 22 estimates; (d) the total monetary amount of the section 22 estimates which were collected; and (e) the number of taxpayers who had section 22 estimates raised on them.

asked the Minister for Finance in respect of the year 1982 (a) the number of taxpayers who had estimates raised on them under section 23 of the VAT Act; (b) the total number of section 23 estimates which were raised; (c) the total monetary value of the estimates; (d) the total number of estimates which have been paid; (e) the total number of taxpayers who have made payments in respect of these estimates; (f) the total number of estimates currently under appeal; and (g) the monetary value of the estimates currently under appeal.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of VAT refunded to (a) farmers registered for VAT, and (b) unregistered farmers in the years 1979/1980/1981/1982; and the estimated amount that is likely to be refunded in 1983.

asked the Minister for Finance as of December 31 1982, the number of subcontractors who were (a) limited companies, and (b) others; the number of each of these who did not hold sub-contractors certificates due to their failures to satisfy the criteria required by the Revenue Commissioners; and the number of cases where tax had been deducted from sub-contractors by main contractors and where claims for repayment or credit of this tax had not been received.

asked the Minister for Finance the amounts of tax paid for the years 1979; 1980; 1981; and 1982; and the estimated tax to be paid for 1983 in respect of: (1) capital acquisitions tax on gifts; (2) capital acquisition tax on inheritances; and (3) capital gains tax.

asked the Minister for Finance the total number of cases of (a) income tax (non PAYE); (b) corporation tax; (c) PAYE/PRSI; (d) VAT referred to the sheriff or the county registrar at December 31 1982 and the amount of tax involved in each category.

asked the Minister for Finance the total number of individuals or companies who are on record or registered in respect of the following (a) income tax (Non PAYE), (1) farmers and (2) others; (b) Corporation tax; (c) PAYE/PRSI employers: and (d) value-added tax.

asked the Minister for Finance the number of trained Inspectors of Taxes within the new anti-evasion unit attached to the Revenue Commissioners.
