asked the Minister for Education when sanction will be issued for the appointment of a PE teacher at the Sacred Heart secondary school, Convent of Mercy, Drogheda, County Louth.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 853 and 854 together.
The appointment of teachers in secondary schools under the prescribed regulations and within the authorised quotas of staff is a matter for the managerial authorities of the schools and the question of ministerial approval for individual appointments does not arise.
An appeal was received by the Department from the authorities of the school in question in relation to the quota of teachers to whom incremental salary would be paid in the school-year 1983-84. Having considered the views of the Quota Advisory Review Committee the Department have conveyed their decision in the matter to the school authorities.
