andMrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in processing an application for school transport for a person (details supplied) in County Meath.

As was announced in July 1983 valid application had to be made to the local CIE office on or before 17 August 1983, in order to ensure the issue of post-primary transport permits before the commencement of the autumn school term.

The application in respect of the pupil in question was not received by CIE until 23 August 1983. It is understood that the relevant permit was issued on 1 September 1983.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in processing an application for school transport for a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

There has been no undue delay in processing the application in question. The child concerned may, as an exceptional matter, avail of fare-paying facilities on an incidental basis on an existing post-primary service, subject to spare accommodation being available and on condition that no extra State cost is incurred. CIE are being informed accordingly.
