Vol. 345 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

209.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a decision will be made on the tenders which have been received and which are with the consultant engineers for Kells sewerage scheme, County Meath.

I understand from Meath County Council that their consulting engineers are expected to forward tenders for the proposed Kells sewerage scheme to Meath County Council this week and that the county council hope to be in a position to submit their proposals in the matter to my Department soon after that. I can assure the Deputy that once the local authority's proposals are received in my Department they will be examined and a decision made without delay.

asked the Minister for the Environment the current situation in relation to Stamullen sewerage scheme, County Meath.

The documents submitted by Meath County Council for the proposed Stamullen sewerage scheme are under consideration in my Department.

Having regard to the need to conserve available capital for major water and sewerage schemes of the highest priority in progress or getting to construction at the present time for which adequate finance must be provided including the following sanitary services schemes in County Meath:—

Kells/Oldcastle Regional water Supply Scheme — Stage 1: Estimated cost £1,700,000. East Meath Regional Water Supply Scheme — Stage 2: Estimated cost £1,050,000. Mornington Sewerage Scheme — Stage 2: Estimated cost £660,000.

I regret that I am not at present in a position to indicate when I may be able to convey a decision to Meath County Council on their proposals for Stamullen sewerage scheme.

asked the Minister for the Environment the position regarding the proposed Castlemaine sewerage scheme, County Kerry.

Kerry County Council advertised for tenders for the Castlemaine sewerage scheme on 3 October 1983. The closing date for receipt of tenders was 18 October. It is now a matter for the local authority to submit their proposals in regard to the acceptance of tenders together with a loan application for the scheme to my Department.

asked the Minister for the Environment when work will start on the proposed Ballybeg-Droumulton group water supply scheme in County Kerry.

State grants amounting to £10,700 have been allocated to the Ballybeg Currow group water scheme and £7,020 has been paid. The scheme is almost complete, the pipes have been laid and the reservoir constructed.

The plans for the scheme were approved on the basis that Kerry County Council would make a water supply available to the group from the Castleisland Regional Scheme. Due to current demands being made on the regional water scheme it is understood that the council would find it difficult to supply the Ballybeg scheme. Accordingly, negotiations were entered into between the group, Kerry County Council and Kerry Co-operative Creameries to obtain an alternative supply. It is understood that negotiations have not yet reached a satisfactory conclusion, and that the group are now considering sinking a bore hole or well in the vicinity of the lough in the Currow area to serve the scheme. Until a water supply is available to the group the scheme cannot be completed.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will indicate the prospects of providing a water supply by way of a group scheme for the residents of Gurrane and Knockbrack between Farmers Bridge, Ballyfinnane and Castlemaine in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Survey sheets for the Farmers Bridge group water supply scheme to cater for approximately 1,287 houses in the area were received in my Department on 14 October 1983. Arrangements will be made for a departmental inspector to call to the group to advise them of procedure, and to have the preliminary proposals examined.

asked the Minister for the Environment the position regarding Ballinasare Lower group water supply scheme near Annascaul, County Kerry, where the contributions were paid some time ago; and if he will arrange to allocate the grants at an early date.

Design data for the Ballinasare group water supply scheme which was required by Kerry County Council, before the scheme could be approved, was received in my Department on 18 October. This doucment has been forwarded to the council for their examination and their approval of the design is now awaited.
