Vol. 347 No. 1

Written Answers. - Central Fisheries Board.

317.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry when the Central Fisheries Board will move their headquarters to Galway in accordance with the Fisheries Act, 1980.

The 1980 Fisheries Act does not prescribe Galway as the headquarters of the Central Fisheries Board. The decision to locate the board in Galway was an administrative one taken by the then Minister in charge of Fisheries.

Discussions have taken place between the Department and the Central Fisheries Board in regard to the transfer and the question of finding suitable accommodation is being examined. However, because of the reluctance of the headquarters staff of the Central Fisheries Board who were employed by the former Inland Fisheries Trust Incorporated to agree to a transfer to Galway, the matter will take some time to finalise.
