asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give early approval to an application from Laois County Council for the erection of housing schemes at Errill, Borris-in-Ossory, Mountrath and Ballylinan, as the houses are urgently needed for the purpose of rehousing families living in sub-standard accommodation in all of those areas.

I have recently approved the unit cost in the recommended tender for the 8-house scheme at Borris-in-Ossory. This means that Laois County Council can now place a contract for this scheme and work can commence shortly.
With regard to the proposed 6-house scheme at Ballylinan, this scheme will receive urgent attention when additional information sought by my Department is submitted by Laois County Council. The two schemes at Errill (4 houses) and Mountrath (12 houses), are under consideration in my Department.
