On 19 December 1983, local authorities were notified by circular letter to the effect that in 1984 the Government would provide £2.15 million for grants under the local improvements scheme in respect of farm roads eligible for EC aid under the western package. The 1984 scheme did not apply to projects, such as drainage schemes and works on bog roads, which did not come within the scope of the package. A grant of £2.15 million was also allocated under the scheme in 1985 on a similar basis. On this basis Kildare County Council does not qualify for a grant under the scheme. It is not proposed to amend these arrangements.
